Non-EU-member-state-nationals require a work permit, issued by the Employment Training Board (ETB), prior to commencing their employment. Work permits are requested by their prospective employer and can only be requested once the company has agreed to employ the individual and not before.
A work permit is issuable for a maximum period of 12 months. Any employer who fails to secure a required work permit, for any of its employees who are not entitled to work in Gibraltar, commits an offence. Such offences are punishable by a fixed penalty notice of £3,000.
Swiss nationals do not require a work permit to work in Gibraltar.
