A B-24 Liberator crashes into the sea 16 seconds after taking off from Gibraltar Airport at 23:07 hours, killing all 11 passengers and five of the six crew. Among the passengers, Lieutenant General Władysław Sikorski, commander-in-chief of the Polish Army and Prime Minister of the Polish government in exile.
